Theater in Aracataca

Makondo Teatro, directed by Jesús Bravo, is an artistic project deeply inspired
by the literary legacy of Gabriel García Márquez.

Works such as Love in the Time of Cholera and Chronicle of a Death Foretold serve as references for theatrical performances that aim to connect young people with the magical and complex world of the Caribbean. This theatrical space not only offers entertainment but also promotes reflection on universal themes such as love, death, destiny, and identity.

Under Bravo’s direction, Makondo Teatro becomes a platform for NNAJ (Children and Adolescents) to explore their creativity, express their realities, and connect with the rich cultural heritage of the region. Through theater, young people not only get to know Gabo's great works but also actively engage in creating their own stories, contributing to the strengthening of cultural identity and personal development.

MAKONDO THEATER IS A PROGRAM OF LA FUNDACIÓN FENIX: RENACE Y TRANSFORMA

With a mission to foster sustainable development and community well-being, the foundation emphasizes education, cultural identity, and social inclusion. Key programs include environmental education and reforestation, community sports, support for migrants and the homeless, and a community kitchen serving at-risk youth. The Fénix Foundation also promotes local tourism as a means to create jobs and strengthen the local economy while celebrating the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
